The Scoff

So there I am after dropping my sister off after a wonderful day with her at the Mall of America. I’m driving to Church to do some Eucharistic Adoration and as soon as I get off the freeway I am stopped at at red light. As I am sitting there, I take a look in my rear-view mirror and see a man on a motorcycle waiting behind me. I watch as I see him scan my bumper as he reads my bumper stickers: “babies are a blessing: choose life”, “anti-Catholicism is a man-made tradition”, “Michele Bachmann for President.” I then saw him scoff, very visibly, very noticeably. It’s impossible for me to know exactly which one(s) he found offensive, but it doesn’t matter.  I understand that not everyone likes Bachmann because the biased, liberal media paints her negatively. I understand that some people hate Catholicism because they don’t know what it really is or because they love their sins too much. I understand that some people hate babies because they are selfish, heartless, inhumane people. Odds are, this man was all of the above and offended at all of my bumper stickers. In any case I just felt bad for him and he was the first prayer intention I made when I knelt before our Holy Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

So motorcycle man who was stopped behind me at Hanson Blvd and Highway 10 in Coon Rapids at about 7:20PM on September 7, 2011, I am praying for you.

Bachmann for President

I just have to say that I am extremely proud to say that Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is the Representative for my district and that I was able to vote for her in the last two elections.

Anyways, I totally agree with her reasoning for voting against increasing the debt ceiling last week in Congress.

We need to stop spending more money than we are making. We need to. Its one thing to borrow a little money, its another to consistently spend close to half of what you are spending with no sign of slowing down and no plan to get out of debt. The government is so dang irresponsible, and Obama has only made things incredibly worse than they already were. We need men and women like Bachmann to be our lawmakers.

In 2012, make Obama stand in the unemployment line.

Conservatives

Am I the only who feels like Conservatives are treated like completely idiotic and brainless fools for the simple fact that they are conservative? If someone watched the mainstream news or listened to the wisdom of the latest Hollywood celebrities or sat through a typical university lecture, they would be unable to come to the conclusion that conservatives are intellectual in the least. They’d believe that conservatives are archaic, that they make up facts to support cardboard ideas that are irrelevant to a real society. They’d believe we are hateful, bigoted, overzealous ignoramuses who live in a little world that we make up in our minds and we best off in the nut house, in a straight jacket, both for our safety and for the safety of every one else, mostly the liberals.

Why is this, though? Is it because the typical Conservative believes that the government should not waste tons of money by overhauling health care? Is it because we look at the fact that the government cannot even effectively run a postal service and believe that the government should not be in the business of business?

Or is it because the typical Conservative believes that morality is determined by reason and not primal urges? That marriage is not capable of being redefined? That a Conservative can look at two different things and be able to say, “those things are not the same”? Is it because we refuse to call a circle a square? Is it because we believe in the reaffirming procreation and the future of our society as as essential role in marriage, not the lusts of consenting adults?

Perhaps its the unwavering mantra of a true Conservative that the Declaration of Independence has something important to say? Is it our belief that all man have the right to live? That human persons have value no matter their age, wantedness, talents, intelligence, health, or level of wealth?

I guess I realize that it’s easy to see why reason, fiscal responsibility, and respect for life make one an idiot.

Well I guess we’re a nation of morons then. Look at this graph from a Gallup poll last fall:

Conservatives far outnumber liberals and have for quite some time, basically, always. You only think we have been outnumbered because most Hollywood celebrities support liberal causes, because most mainstream media outlets are liberally biased, but they don’t truly represent what we average American’s believe. You see, here’s the thing: we aren’t idiots. We aren’t unintelligent. We aren’t even the stinking minority. We have something to say. We have something valuable to say. We have something to protect: our nation, our future, our families, our freedoms. We don’t succumb to being pc, to granting rights where no right exists, to repealing the unalienable right to life for the sake of convenience.

And for the record, I’d vote for Bachmann again and again.
